Beating Diabetes Part II

canstockphoto3892643 (1)In my last post, I wrote about how we don’t get enough exercise and eat properly which brings a lot illness like diabetes. Type 2 diabetes can be reversed according to my experiences and knowledge.

In this post, I point out the importance of nutrition and the various types of foods that help people with diabetes. First thing I would like to point out is that folks with type 2 diabetes have a chance to recover by saving the pancreas. This can be done by controlling the type of foods you eat. Remember, we are creatures of habit. It will take some effort in the beginning, but after persisting and controlling what you eat, it will become a habit and easy sailing after awhile.

The first step is to detoxify your body by juice fasting for two weeks to get rid of toxins in your body. Use fresh vegetables and grass juice like barley grass juice powder or wheat grass juice powder. You should have, however, one protein meal a day during your fasting like white meat or eggs. Juice fasting also can change the pH of your blood to a more alkaline level to gives a positive effect in your body system which will be covered later in my Blog.

Here I will be focusing on foods that you should eat to improve your blood sugar level. The main groups of foods to eat are as follows:

  • Moderate to low carbs like sweet potato; leafy, root and stalk vegetables; and tomatoes
  • Onions and garlic
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Avocados and coconut
  • Berries and citrus fruits
  • Whole grains and beans
  • Whole grain bread
  • Oily fish like salmon, sardines and mackerel
  • Low fat milk and yogurt
White meat like poultry and fish
  • Eggs
  • Spices and herbs

I am not going to recommend taking only organic foods. I personally don’t see much of a difference. I believe that organic foods are overrated. If you wash your vegetables and fruits properly, there shouldn’t be any problem with residual pesticides on your food. The choice is yours.

The objective is to maintain a healthy low carb, protein, high fiber and unsaturated fat diet. The result would be a loss in weight, less depended on insulin and feeling energetic. Eventually, you would be able to get off the medication. You still would have to monitor your blood sugar level until it stabilizes to normal. Regular visits to your doctor are still recommended.

Intermittent fasting is ideal to keep a good alkaline level in your blood and help detoxify your body. More is discussed under Immune System Category of this Blog.

The foods to AVOID strictly are as follows:

  • All sugars, syrups and sweeteners
  • Refined process foods which includes most what you see on the supermarket shelf
  • All kinds of snacks, cookies and cakes containing sugar
  • Dried fruits, jams and preserves
  • Butter and margarine
  • Cereals, flour and refined breads
  • Whole potato and French fries
  • Alcohol, soft drinks (including diet sodas), coffee and black tea

When eating out, especially at a fast-food restaurant, better to order a salad like Cesar salad with chicken or seafood salad.

Health supplements are great to help you balance or lower your blood sugar level. Instead taking health supplements in a form of dried and ground plant material, it is recommended to take extracts which are in a form of a capsule, pills or tablet and more potent.  For example, one capsule of cinnamon extract is equivalent of several ounces of cinnamon bark and contains active ingredients like flavonoids.

The health supplements you should to add to your diet are as follows:

Organic salt of calcium like calcium citrate for better absorption
Vitamin B12 to help your immune system
Vitamin C, about 300 to 500 mg per day to help your immune system
Vitamin D to help absorb calcium
Broken-cell Chlorella powder to help the immune system
Cinnamon extract as cinnamon mimics insulin and softens cell walls
Chromium GTF and Vanadium organic salt to maintain healthy blood sugar level

If you follow the recommended types of food and stick to your diet, you may see positive results over a few weeks. If your blood sugar is decreasing, and your need for insulin or other medication is also decreasing, you may be on your way to reversing your type 2 diabetes. Keep your regular checks with your doctor until he declares you diabetes free.

There is an interesting theory about what causes type 2 diabetes in most cases which makes a lot of sense. There is evidence that diabetes may be caused by microbes or parasites that attack the liver and pancreas and weakens the immune system. This will be discussed under the Immune System Category of this Blog.
